Bhai Sahib Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi (Adampur, Doaba)


Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi was born in the village of Manko, District Jallandhar, Punjab into the house of Bhai Daulat Singh and Mata Raj Kaur Ji. Both his father and grandfather, Bhai Fateh Singh Ji were renowned Raagis of their time, as well as his paternal uncle, Bhai Sardara Singh, who played the Taus.

Along with brothers Bhai Shamsher Singh Zakhmi and Bhai Gursharan Singh Zakhmi (Phuman Singh), they formed a Kirtan Jatha. These brothers had received their initial training from their father and grandfather, they were sent to learn further from Sangeet Professor Darshan Singh Komal, where the learned many
puratan compostions passed down from Bhai Sain Ditta Ji.


Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi's sons, Bhai Amrik Singh Zakhmi and Bhai Hariqbal Singh joined the kirtan jatha to play the Dilruba and Tabla.


Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi passed away 19th January 1980, at which point, Bhai Shamsher Singh Zakhmi went on to form a jatha with Bhai Mohanpal Singh and Bhai Akal Singh. Bhai Shamsher Singh Zakhmi passed away 19th January 1988 exactly eight years after the death of Bhai Dharam Singh Zakhmi.
