Giani Sital Singh Sitara was born in the Punjabi village of Nangal-Khera, near Phagwara, Dist Kapurthala in 1939, into the house of Sardar Dharam Singh and Mata Chanan Kaur. At the age of 2, Giani Sital Singh Sitara lost his sight due to an illness.
At the age of 10, Giani Sital Singh Sitara was sent to study Gurmat Sangeet from Sangeet Professor Darshan Singh Komal for a period of 7 years after which he immigrated to Nairobi, Kenya with his family. In Kenya, Giani Sital Singh Sitara began performing and teaching Kirtan.
In 1965, Giani Sital Singh Sitara married Bibi Parminder Kaur. In 1972, Giani Sital Singh Sitara settled in the UK and continued his Kirtan sewa as well as teaching.

In the 1980s, Giani Sital Singh Sitara cofounded the Guru Nanak Missionary Blind Society in the UK, which went on to establish the Guru Nanak Mission Netarheen Birdh Ashram in Phagwara, Punjab, which has been operational since 1988. This Ashram is a non profit institution and charity set up to look after the blind, orphans, elderly and otherwise physically disabled people, providing vocational training in braille, music (Gurmat Sangeet), painting, sewing and various other skills designed to give these disabled individuals the independence to live their lives without having to rely on others for assistance and also have the potential to earn a living through creating opportunities, jobs and support themselves.
Giani Sital Singh Sitara co-published Gurbani Komal Sangeet, with Giani Gian Singh Surjit, dedicated to their Ustad, Sangeet Professor Darshan Singh Komal.
Giani Sital Singh Sitara, passed away 16th October 2021.
